Case Study: Optimization of Quotation Processes for a Client in the Wind Energy Sector – Construction

A central challenge for one of our clients – a manufacturer in the wind energy sector – was the lengthy time span between an initial request and the submission of a final offer. With varying workloads and differing project scales, manual quantity takeoffs for turbine foundations often led to capacity bottlenecks and project delays.

Initially, the idea was to accelerate the process by introducing Solid Edge. However, this approach would have been comparable to learning Photoshop just to remove red eyes from a photo – an overly complex solution for a very specific task. Its implementation would have also entailed additional costs for licenses and training.

Following the YEARNING philosophy, we instead focused on developing a lean, modular solution tailored precisely to the specific process step. Standard foundation types were modeled within a BIM framework and paired with a user-friendly input interface for the relevant parameters. This made it possible to capture key data directly within the model, significantly simplifying the workflow and enabling a cost-effective, efficient rollout.

Thanks to this modular approach, individual pain points could be resolved one by one – ultimately forming a new, optimized process that is not only more efficient but also more sustainable.

The subsequent automation of the quantity takeoff was not implemented for its own sake, but as a deliberate measure to increase efficiency. Step by step, this gave rise to a new planning standard – transparent, faster, and economically sound.
